Process Paper
When choosing my topic, I wanted to learn more about a leader involved in World War II that I had not previously studied. We briefly touched on Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust in Reading class, however I wanted to become more informed about this turbulent time period. My previous history fair experiences had to do with World War II and the atomic bomb so it made sense for me to look closer at Adolf Hitler, who was a key figure in this war. He is intriguing to me because of the power and influence he had over many people. After researching Hitler’s regime, it was clear I had to narrow my topic choice. I chose to look closer at his influence and control over German children. It was amazing to me, being 13 years old, how these children at my age were brainwashed to worship such an evil man.
I began my research by gaining background information on my topic through secondary sources initially. I used the public library and then began exploring online sources and databases. By far, one of the most helpful databases was the National Holocaust Museum. I was able to find audio recordings as as well as actual documents that could be used as primary sources. Another important database was the World War II database, which also provided documents and photos as well as background information.
Choosing to present my information through a website media was the easiest decision because I would be able to link actual memos and documents so that they could be viewed by the reader. It was also easy to allow audio recordings to be played as these were significant resources.
My topic relates to this year’s theme, Leadership and Legacy, because Adolf Hitler left a legacy of death and destruction. His evil legacy has taught future generations that hatred is a poisonous element of our world and that we must use every resource available to fight against hatred to prevent the destruction of the world as we know it today.
