Propaganda served as an important tool to brainwash German youth. Intolerance is something that must be carefully taught. The Nazis were keen on this as it was seen from the way in which the “Jewish” problem was incorporated into the teachings of the young, especially through propaganda picture books such as the Der Giftpilz (The Poisonous Mushroom). Teachers taught Nazi propaganda as truth and had their young students recite it back from memory. As part of Hitler’s program to reshape German minds, the children of the regime were taught to focus on external “enemies” like Jews and communists, to live up to German physical ideals, and to take pride in the German race. Propaganda was also used to bolster the cult of personality surrounding Adolf Hitler himself.
